Christmas is just around the corner, and for many families, Christmas is a luxury. This is why for over 25 years, Kids First has committed to provide Christmas to thousands of children and families in need. Every year Kids First throws an epic Christmas party for almost 500 children and senior citizens. There will be great food, Christmas music, presents, dancing, entertainment, and of course Santa will be dropping by in his red helicopter.
The company receives no federal or state funding, therefore they have to rely on local businesses and individuals like you to provide them with necessary resources, hoping to fulfill this commitment to our community. Kids First identifies these families through a vast network of sponsors, teachers, guidance counselors, social workers, neighborhood leaders, family, friends, co-workers. Help is discrete and immediate.
Each child is asked to give the organization their wishlist. Many kids ask for food, clothing, socks, or shoes. They try to give each child two wishes and clothing. These gifts are wrapped and are ready to be put under the tree. If they don’t have a tree Kids First will provide them with one. Every year, the real work begins the day after the party, as the wonderful volunteers continue to help those in need, out of our donated storefront right up until Christmas day!
How can you help? It’s easy! Drop off gifts at the Kids First storefront location:
McMullen Creek Shopping Center, 8332 Pineville-Matthews Rd (2 doors to right of Metro Diner)
They will be open in November 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Monday thru Friday, December 9:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday, and 11:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. on weekends.
Organizing a toy drive, shoe drive, coat drive, change drive at your office, church, school, gym, neighborhood would also help a great deal. Let them know when you’re ready, and they can even arrange to have your donations picked up.
They are also need volunteers! Kids First Decorating Day will be held at South Mecklenburg High School at 8900 Park Rd., Saturday, December 16 from 1:00 p.m. until we’re finished. They need folks of all ages to wrap gifts, decorate tables, decorate the school inside and out for Sunday’s big event. There will be Christmas music, food trucks, fun and lots of warm Holiday Spirit! Come volunteer and have lunch at a food truck! They would love to see you there!
As always, you can make a monetary donation through our website: kidsfirstofthecarolinas.org
