As a youth, you may feel like you have a limited way to make a change in a society where teens are looked at as not being “mature” enough to make a difference. If you feel similarly, then don’t fret, because a program called NewGen Peacebuilders is accepting applications now!
What is NewGen?
NewGen is a unique youth peace education and leadership development program that emphasizes the role, value and impact of young people in achieving a peaceful world. How do you do that? You can do this by creating a project that helps a conflict in society. These are called peace projects. Peace projects could address hunger, homelessness, gun violence, etc. You and your group will present your project to the public on May 4, 2019.
You won’t have to do this alone either. Once you join NewGen you are able to join a small group of like minded teens. You are also given an experienced mentor to guide you and your group through your project. Throughout the program you are required to attend 5 immersion workshops on Jan. 25-26, March 1-2, and March 9. These immersion workshops are held on Fridays from 8am-3pm and Saturdays from 9am-4pm. For the workshops on Fridays you will receive an excused absence for your school. You will also be required to participate in four one hour virtual calls each week with local, national, and international peacebuilders.
If you’re interested in applying then visit this link. Applications are due by November 30.
