Homecoming week has certainly been a very fun packed and spirited week for South Meck! The pep rally was prepared weeks before and was ready to be unfolded on Friday, but due to weather issues the rally couldn’t be held down at the football field. So, if the students can't be brought to the rally then the rally will be brought to them. This year the rally was done in a parade format and hits every building. A luncheon was prepared pre-homecoming for our candidates and each were a given a sash to bear and show their pride as a Sabre candidate. The homecoming game was a extreme success for us as well. Read more about our outstanding homecoming week below!

This year’s luncheon was a good bonding experience for the homecoming court. The homecoming candidates have had a long month getting ready for the homecoming game because of weather here in Charlotte. The game has had to be rescheduled, leaving a long gap for the girls to wait and get in some extra votes. This years set of homecoming candidates were welcomed by a nice surprise- a full meal containing salad and baked potatoes, chicken, cornbread and cupcakes all made by the school cafeteria staff. An array of beautiful plates and silverware were strategically placed on the table, all sharing the same red and silver theme. The cute red sash was provided for each girl so they could wear it that night to look like a group, but also stay warm. They had a guest speaker that spoke to the young ladies about life going forward, and plans after high school. She gave tips on social media, college and protecting your reputation as young entrepreneurs. Afterward, they all shared a few laughs and some photos.

The pep rally was scheduled to take place the same day as the game, but due to the inclement weather, it was canceled early in the day. However, the student council was on it and planned us a homecoming pep rally parade to march through every building on every floor. Even in the gloomy weather, the parade brought some Sabre spirit to every classroom and every student. Our wonderful marching band played an assortment of songs from uptown funk to sweet Caroline as they traveled from building to building. It definitely got everyone cheered up and ready for the game that night. Everyone that was a part of the pep rally made the best of an otherwise gloomy day. Starting from O building the rally worked all the way up to A building hitting every hallway and classroom possible. Leading the “convoy” was Sabre Student Government quickly followed by our marching band, cheerleaders, Homecoming candidates, and our 2 merry Sabre mascots!

The entire day lead up to this moment. This Sabre’s homecoming game had lots of energy with the Sabres coming strongly in first place. This game was at home and against Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology. We scored an amazing 49-0, and the crowd was thrilled. The players worked hard Friday night, and although the weather was chilling and damp, we prevailed.
