Did you know that NC is ranked as the 8th highest state for food insecurity in the nation?
We here at South Meck want to provide a solution to this issue for our community.
Together FBLA, The PEARLS, NAACP, Student Government, Student Leadership, FCCLA, and the NTHS have joined to help our community start the SMHS food pantry. The food pantry will be stocked with donations that we receive. If you are a member of a club there will be many opportunities to complete community service by volunteering in the pantry.
Our goal is to have the food pantry open by Nov. 1. In order to meet that goal, we need your help. We will be having a continuous food drive throughout the year and you or your parents are welcome to drop off food in the barrels or bins labeled “Food Drive” near the small cafeteria. Signs will be posted around campus indicating the types of items needed.
So please, don’t forget to drop off your dry goods and nonperishable donations so we can open the Food Pantry on Nov. 1. If we help each other then we can all succeed in solving this problem in our school and keep the focus on every student becoming successful. Thank you for helping our community!
