South Meck versed Ardrey Kell for the Dig Pink event! Our Women's Volleyball team did a spectacular job in the game against Ardrey Kell to raise awareness for cancer. Our volleyball team was inspired to play other teams and host an event to raise donations, with even a giant check of $1000! Our community with over 55 representatives sponsored the event at South Meck. The volleyball coach, Jonathon Welsh, was interviewed and gave us plenty of information on the event itself.
Two of our very own volleyball players were interviewed, with one quoting that a loved one had died of cancer, inspiring these students to participate in this event. Though some may believe volleyball is not as appreciated in the community as other major sports, one cheerleader was quoted as saying: “Volleyball is just as important as any other sport.” How true is that statement!
Even though the tide of the game was not in favor of South Meck itself, the goal of raising donations was still reached successfully! The check will be given to the American Cancer Society to help with cancer treatments, awareness, and helping our community! In the end, even with a loss, two of our students proudly hold the check to show off their fighting spirit!
You can check out a highlight reel-including interviews with players, cheerleaders, and coaches-below.
